Different every week, red spinel maybe?

Lily Reynolds

Trainee Designer & Gemmologist

What do you do at Holts Gems?

I am a trainee gemmologist and jewellery advisor and I am now also learning the art of jewellery design. I help our customers to choose their jewellery and gemstones by providing gem/jewellery guidance and advice and by listening to what they want, working to their budget. I also write insurance valuations for jewellery, deal with trade enquiries and online orders, liaise between shopfloor and lapidary workshop and help oversee the general smooth-running of our shop.

What special skills do you bring to Holts?

I love to spend time with clients looking for a special piece of jewellery or gemstone that looks great on them and that they can wear with pride and confidence. I will give my advice about what suits someone, and sometimes even get them to consider something they never would have had the confidence to wear before.

If you could design & make jewellery for any one person, who would it be and why?

Elizabeth Taylor, because you could really use your imagination and give your creativity free roam, and she’d always pull it off.

What's your favourite gemstone?

Watermelon tourmaline, preferably a slice. Or a diamond slice. Any kind of slice.

What’s your ‘top tip’ for customers?

If you have no idea what you’re looking for, we will of course help you find the perfect piece, but it can be quite overwhelming having so many options so do a little research before coming in.

Designer & Shop Manager

Debbie

What do you do at Holts?

I assist the Director with managing the shop floor and day to day running of things as well as being expert at pearl and bead stringing.

What special skills do you bring to Holts:

Super multitasking! My main focus is stringing but I love speaking with our customers and managing the shop floor activities. I love to be busy!

If you could make jewellery for any one person, who would it be and why:

Coco Channel, because she knows how to wear pearls with class and elegance

What is your favourite gemstone:

Spinels

What’s your ‘top tip’ for customers:

Have your most precious pearls re-strung every 2 - 5 years to keep them in top condition. Make sure you give them a gentle clean regularly to prevent a build up of perfume and general grime that can destroy the special shine of pearls over time.
