Peridot is the gem variety of the mineral olivine. Olivine forms in igneous rocks such as Basalt and is rather abundant however gem quality Peridot is rather rare. Unusually, Peridot is one of a few gems which only occur in one colour, which is called idiochromatic, and can range from quite a light yellow green to a darker brownish green.
Peridot is said to enhance the virtues of truthfulness, faithfulness and loyalty within the wearer.
