April - Diamond

Diamond is the hardest natural gemstone known to man, measuring 10 on the Mohs scale of hardness, making it ideal to be worn on a daily basis. Composed of Carbon, Diamond is similar to the chemical composition of Graphite, ironically which is one of the softest know materials to man. This is resultant due to the differences in bonding between the atoms, with Diamond exhibiting very strong covalent bonding.

Diamonds are thought to have been first discovered washed up in the form of alluvial deposits, along the rivers Penner, Krishna, Godavari in India around 3,000 years ago.

Diamond is the most popular gemstone for engagement rings and is typically worn on the third finger on the left hand, due to traditional beliefs of the ‘vena amoris’. This vein was believed to run from the third finger on the left hand side directly to your heart, and is now know as the ring finger.

Diamond is believed to enhance the strength of the wearer and creates everlasting love.
