Holts Lapiday wins UK Jewellery Awards 2008 Independent Retailer of the Year.

Holts Lapidary are delighted to announce winning The UK Jewellery Awards 2008 Independent Retailer of the Year last week at the Oscars of the jewellery industry.  The judges were impressed by Holts reinvention last year with a new “rock to ring” designed shop, the exterior representing the rough gemstone and the interior the round ring of a finished jewellery piece.  This was recognised as “amazingly bold” and an inspiration to other retailers.  The judges also praised Holts’ ethos of “the answers ‘yes’, now what’s the question?”.  Holts are proud to be called “a genuine innovation in a traditional market” and strive hard to achieve this reputation.  See http://www.ukjewelleryawards.co.uk/winners.htm for more information.

Holts Re-opens at 98 Hatton Garden.

R. Holt & Co Ltd has re-opened its doors to clients at 98 Hatton Garden, under their new name Holts Lapidary. The new shop, conceptualised by Large Smith Walford and designed by Blauel Architects, projects the essence of Holts' business – taking rough hewn stone and turning that into exquisitely beautiful jewellery.

Passing customers are greeted by a window display that resembles the fissure in a rock which contains the precious gems.  Designed as an abstraction it starkly frames a display of pads that seem to float in the fissure bathed in bright warm light, beautifully presenting a wide selection of gems and jewellery.

The ambience of the interior maintains the trade character of the traditional working environment now translated into a contemporary design.  Directors and staff have their desks in a concentric arrangement grouped around the sales area which takes the shape of a small arena.  The circular theme is complemented by fully glazed counters which display a rainbow spectrum of coloured gems in all shapes and sizes.  This arrangement makes for easy browsing and creates a sense of intimacy he additional space created within the shop will be used to showcase new and young designers on a regular basis.  Clients will be invited to open evenings to view contemporary collections, and to meet the up and coming designers.

The additional focus is on supplying bespoke and finished jewellery direct to the customer. Together with pieces created by their own designers, Holts will also be showcasing new and young designers on a regular basis.

Jason Holt, co-director of the business, says “This is the start of an exciting new chapter for Holts. We are the only UK jeweller that cuts precious stones. Our new frontage showcasing that difference, and the new shop will enable us to expand our business by selling direct to the many people that come to Hatton Garden to buy something genuinely unique.”
