The Academy

Embarking on social enterprise in active expression of its commitment to the community, Holts has been offering the public and trade training in vital skills for over a decade now. Holts Academy has emerged at the forefront of jewellery education, having originally started out with small-scale delivery of short courses and government funded projects. Later, in 2007, a passionate belief in the future of the jewellery industry led Holts Academy to pioneer jewellery-related qualifications, giving the industry its first jewellery graduates in a generation.

The Academy is a not-for-profit social enterprise with the mission to support the jewellery industry, whether that means facilitating on-going professional development or helping the future generation of jewellers to enter the trade for the first time.

A specialist facility in the truest sense of the word, the academy caters for only a select number of clients each year. Concentrating on areas it knows and loves, the Academy is still of a size enabling the provision of genuine flexibility and a personal service, its staff being more than delighted to help learners choose the right subject, content and pathway for them as individuals.

Well ahead of the current boom for the new jewellery qualifications and apprenticeships, Holts Academy of Jewellery proved the market and mastered the model. Whether you embark on an introductory short course, or one of the Academy’s prestigious qualification programmes, you can rest assured that your tutors have been carefully selected for their knowledge and passion for passing on their skills and ultimately, for sharing the ethos of the Academy.

Over a period of thirteen years, the Academy has:
  • supported over 3,000 people in gaining employment or starting businesses in the industry
  • supported over 5,000 people in gaining vital technical and commercial skills
  • been the only provider to address the current and future vocational skills needs of the industry by establishing vocational qualifications
  • created real opportunities for the community and industries that it serves
  • produced over 150 of the first qualified jewellery manufacture graduates in a generation

Whether you are seeking a career in retail jewellery, want to become a self-employed designer or maker, study for an apprenticeship, or simply start making jewellery for enjoyment, the Academy has worked to create specialist pathways to make the journey that much easier.

The qualifications Holts Academy deliver are brand new and based on years of educational expertise. The qualification framework has been developed after extensive work with the Sector Skills Council, local employers and Goldsmiths, and has been designed to give students on the programme a fantastic grounding in jewellery-making skills and understanding.
